One of the best parts about being a pediatrician is helping parents as they welcome a newborn into their family. The first few weeks with a new baby are truly amazing, exhilarating, and exhausting! Luckily as a pediatrician I had a good deal of experience with many of the ins and outs of newborn care. Looking back, I feel that this knowledge was so important in decreasing the worries and fears that come with being fully responsible for this tiny little new life. Knowledge about what to expect helped make it a smooth transition for us. My hope going forward is to continue to impart this knowledge to my patients’ families, and help make this transition as wonderful for them as possible. As a new parent, one of the hardest things to figure out is when to worry and when not to worry. Having a pediatrician who can help you figure that out is so important in those first few frenzied weeks! For me, having my own little one has reinforced to me what a privilege it is to care for families during this very special time.
